Hurricane Ike Saturday 4:46

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:54 pm by jazzyjeb

We are tired.  It was a long night and has been a long day.  We drove around the area to check out the damage.  Our neighborhood was lucky.  It has little damage.  Once we left our sub division we saw lots of fences down, damaged roofs, brick walls that collapsed.  There is crumpled sheet metal scattered everywhere.  Nothing serious though.  We are truly blessed in this part of town.

Cory spent the night at work.  He went into the TV station last night around midnight just as the storm was getting started.  He worked until 3:30 this afternoon.  I was talking to him as he drove home.  He got home to find out he has power…..that DOG.  How cool is that????  (Sorry about the pun…..power………a/c………..cool………get it?)   I was glad for him.  That small apartment would sure be hot and he has to get some sleep because he has to be back at work at 3:30 am.

We spent some time cleaning the debris in our front yard.  We bagged up 4 bags of tree “stuff”.  We also have a big pile of branchs and tree limbs.  No telling how long it will be before it gets picked up.

They are saying it will be 4 weeks before electricity is completely restored.  I’m hoping ours is sooner rather than later.  We may have to leave our home with no electricity when we go to Oceans 11.  If we do we will have to toss everything in our refrigerator.  If there is no electricity when we get home we may have a problem.  The stores will still be closed so we will have to find somewhere to get food.  We’ll also probably have to take dirty clothes to CA.  That is a first.   LOL  We are spending our first night at Michelle’s so we will be able to wash clothes there.

Oh the challenges a hurricane brings.

That’s my report for now.  Thanks for checking in.

geez on the electricity, hope it comes back sooner rather than later. I think your neighborhood was better off than others because you had so many angels from friends being sent to guard you.

Hi Janice and Gyla, Thanks for keeping us updated. Bruce and I have been very worried about you two and Cory. We are able to watch, a Houston TV station via Direct TV up here in Virginia. It’s great to be able to keep up with the local situation. Glad to hear you have a generator. Be careful and keep us updated when you can. Love, Cassandra & Bruce

Glad to hear it wasn’t horrible….hope your electricity gets restored before you leave. Glad to hear you’re coming to san diego! See you soon.

Glad you and yours are all safe, and hope your electricity isn’t out long. (Seems like their estimates are always much longer than actual restoration times.) Don’t forget to drain the gas from the generator (inlcluding the carb) or it won’t start next time… FRESH gas !
    Be Well !

We were once out of electricity for 12 days in Key West after Georges hit. It is more frustrating than inconvient….I feel your pain.
